In the Canny Kitchen

In the Canny Kitchen

For a newbie trying out cooking with cannabis for the first time, it can be daunting to say the least, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a go. In an article by Jason Wilson of The Guardian, he writes about his first time navigating a green based kitchen with all the insights that any first-timer can relate to. His take is that to mainstream the pot culture, it needs to be as basic as buttering your toast in the morning.  When cannabis is in your pantry next to your Cherrios and chocolate, the stigma is removed just as that bottle of Bordeaux sits on your kitchen counter ready to for sipping and tippling into the next pot of red sauce.

One of the easiest way to start is with cannabis butter which can be used in all manner of recipes. So if your culinary skills level out at the basic brownies or aspire to a full on trout almondine dinner, you can grab that same green butter to make it better. We found a few good butter recipes at the Cannabist and Leaf Science.  If you’re not that hands-on, you can even buy a Magical Butter Maker that’ll do it for you.

However you make it, it should be obvious that dosing is one of the most critical factors to consider carefully. There are some helpful guidelines to try to calculate the potency of edibles but as Leafly found out in an informal investigative article, 100% accuracy is near impossible. So with that in mind, it’s always best to error on the side of safely by staying with low dosage. You can always have the second half of that brownie tomorrow.
